Jackie Shroff recently discussed his experience playing Chunnilal in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas during an interview with Republic Bharat. The actor revealed that he was offered the role only after multiple other actors had declined it. Shroff explained that potential actors rejected the part because the film was centered on Shah Rukh Khan's character of Devdas, and they objected that their character names were overshadowed by the protagonist's identity. When no one else accepted the role, Shroff agreed to take it, noting that Madhuri Dixit played the lead female character Chandramukhi and he would be present in her scenes. He recalled that the role included one song and specific dialogue, and accepted it readily despite its supporting nature, saying "Even if my role comes during the interval, it won't matter to me because I am seen merely by standing."

During the same conversation, Shroff reflected on his early career, crediting actor-filmmaker Dev Anand with casting him in a junior artiste role in Swami Dada (1982), where he played one of Shakti Kapoor's henchmen. He also expressed gratitude to filmmaker Subhash Ghai for giving him his breakthrough as a leading man in Hero (1983), which featured an iconic flute theme that became instrumental in establishing him as a star. Shroff mentioned that the same tune was later adapted for his son Tiger Shroff's debut film Heropanti (2014).

Shroff's recent filmography includes The Great Grand Superhero. He has a horror film titled Kaali Kheti scheduled for release on October 23, 2026.
