Shah Rukh Khan marked India's 80th Independence Day with a heartfelt message celebrating the pride and sense of belonging that comes with being Indian.

He shared a special poster of himself in a white kurta-pajama, set against the saffron, white and green of the national flag, alongside a reflective note about the country.

In it, he wrote of India's colours, contrasts and beautiful differences, and of the feeling of belonging to something much bigger than oneself. He urged people to value what they have and to do their little bit to make the country proud.

The actor signed off with the line, "Proud to be an Indian and love being one." His greeting was among a wave of Independence Day messages from across the film industry.
